Ecobank Nigeria Plc has re-emphasised the value of its partnership with Netpost, the private business arm of the Nigerian Postal Service, as the bank rounds off its public offer.
Ojini Olaghere, Head of Consumer Banking at Ecobank, said the institution remains committed to implementing the partnership to co-locate and offer banking services at 40 facilities belonging to Netpost throughout the country.
She reassured the national postal service and the banking public that Ecobank remains a reliable partner in every aspect of the joint service project despite a recent inaccurate newspaper reporting about the number of locations agreed with Netpost following a presentation by executive director of the bank at investors’ forum in Lagos.
She said of the 40 locations agreed with Netpost, Ecobank has received approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commission services in 10 locations.
Five of the approved locations are up and running at Abuja, Agege in Lagos, Ota in Ogun State, University of Lagos, and Benin in Edo State, Olaghere said. Services at the remaining five locations are on the way. Among locations that would soon come on stream are those in Ajaokuta in Kogi State and Sokoto.
The locations that are in place are offering a range of services, including money transfer. Netpost is to increase the range of the services by opening cybercafé to members of the public at each of the locations.
Olaghere counts the benefits of the Ecobank-Netpost co-location project. "It will extend our reach and take banking to the remotest part of the public," she said. She said by the alliance banking services and products such as Western Union Money Transfer will be made available to people who will not be in a position to access them by any other way.
The Netpost-Ecobank collaboration is part of a broad strategy to grow the bank’s market share through a huge branch expansion project. A portion of the proceeds from the just concluded offer will be used to fund the expansion programme.
